# How Tripshare pricing works

[Tripshare](http://usetripshare.com) uses a rate of $0.25 per kilometre, based on the average Australian fuel consumption and current petrol prices. This is designed to cover the cost of the drive itself — nothing else.

That per-kilometre cost is then split equally across the seats a driver is offering.

## The formula

## An example

A driver posts a 60km trip with 2 seats available. The fuel cost for that trip is split across both seats, so each passenger pays their equal share of what it costs the driver to make the journey.

## The price range

Drivers can set their price within a range around the suggested price. This allows them to adjust for their vehicle's fuel consumption and whether the route includes tolls, while ensuring prices stay within legal cost-recovery limits so no driver can profit from a trip.

The suggested price is always the fair fuel cost split. Drivers set their price within this window before posting.

## What this means for passengers

The price you see is your share of the driver's fuel cost for that trip — nothing more. There is no surge pricing, no platform markup, and no profit margin. Prices only vary based on distance and how many seats are on offer.
